HGTV Dream Home Siding Up Close

DESIGNED WITH DURABILITY IN MIND

Anastasia Island is home to sandy beaches, diverse wildlife, and a relaxed atmosphere that extends from seafood restaurant patios to local art galleries to the island’s iconic lighthouse. But the location also presented a challenge: The HGTV Dream Home needed to withstand north Florida’s hurricane season. First and foremost, the home’s exterior had to be durable.

“We started with the local weather conditions to decide what kind of durability was needed to withstand the harsh elements and hurricane season in north Florida,” says Brian Patrick Flynn, the home’s designer. “We relied on the experts at James Hardie to guide us through the best fits from a practical standpoint and then narrowed selections down to what fit the architecture and overall laid back, coastal vibe.”

Ultra-durable fiber cement products by James Hardie are specifically engineered to withstand damage from weather, moisture, and rot, making Hardie® siding ideal for the climate in North Florida. These products are water-resistant to protect against swelling, warping, and cracking and give you peace of mind, no matter what climate you live in

LUXURY MATERIALS

While durability may have been the primary objective, the exterior of the HGTV Dream Home also needed a sophisticated elegance worthy of a luxury waterfront abode. The distinctive Hardie® Artisan® siding fit the bill, with its deep shadow lines, extra thick boards, and the option to craft mitered corners.

The HGTV Dream Home features Hardie® Artisan® Lap siding with mitered corners, Hardie® Artisan® Square Channel siding for the vertical installation, and Hardie® Artisan® V-Groove siding for ceiling applications with a neat aesthetic. It’s just one combination out of countless design opportunities that you can create with the Hardie® Artisan® products from the Hardie Architectural Collection. A BEACHY COLOR PALETTE

When choosing the color palette for the HGTV Dream Home, Flynn considered the backdrop of the Anastasia Island environment. “I wanted something very sandy and cool. My directive was to create a breezy coastal house that could actually be anywhere on the coast,” says Flynn.

It was also important to consider the home’s interior design — Flynn wanted colors that played well together without being repetitive. “I wanted the exterior and interior to blend easily together and be consistent but not matchy, per se. So the exterior is primarily gray on gray with hints of blue-gray on the doors and removable accents, like decor, and the interior is primarily blue-gray with hints of gray with upholstery and rugs.”

The result is an inviting home exterior and an interior filled with visually stunning rooms, like the blue-on-blue kitchen with maple cabinetry, the terracotta pet-friendly garage, the blue striped pool bathroom with coastal decor, and the cozy loft with an expansive view.

If you’re looking to find the perfect color palette for a dream home of your own, Flynn has a tip: Aim for a look that fits in with your environment rather than standing out too much. “Homes that blend in with their natural surroundings usually achieve the perfect visual balance designers strive to create,” he says.
